Airway Management certification provides senior and experienced lifeguards with specific knowledge and training in the use of oxygen, suction devices, oral airways and bag-valve-masks.
Prerequisite: Standard First Aid.
Instruction & certification: Current First Aid Instructors who hold Airway Management teach Airway Management. Current First Aid Examiners who hold Airway Management certify candidates. The Lifesaving Society deems its certifications to be "current" for 24 months from the certification date.

- Demonstrate an understanding of the:
- principles of respiration and circulation
- importance and application of universal precautions and use of barrier devices
- purpose and use of oropharyngeal airways
- principles and practical application of oxygen supplementation
- purpose and use of manual suction
- Demonstrate the proper use and application of at least one barrier device during the delivery of artificial respiration.
- On a manikin, demonstrate the proper sizing, insertion, and follow-up for the use of an oropharyngeal airway.
- Demonstrate understanding of the components and proper usage, including safety factors, of nasal cannula, face mask, non-breathing mask and pocket mask delivery systems.
- Demonstrate the application of an oxygen delivery system to a victim in need of supplemental oxygen.
- Demonstrate the proper use and application of a manual suction device in the treatment of a victim who is vomiting or who has fluid in the upper airway.
- Demonstrate the use of a bag-valve-mask (BVM).
