First Aid

The Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) recognizes the Lifesaving Society's Standard and Emergency First Aid programs. Our first aid programs also satisfy the first aid requirements in the Ontario Public Pools Regulation. The Lifesaving Society first aid program is used to train aquatic candidates as well as non-aquatic staff for camps, playgrounds, maintenance, etc., as well as the general public.

First Aid TraininG

Learn to deal with injuries and medical emergencies at home, work or play. The Lifesaving Society offers three levels of training:

  • Basic First Aid
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Standard First Aid

The Lifesaving Society also offers:

  • CPR
  • Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
  • Airway Management
  • Anaphylaxis Rescuer

Update to CPR and First Aid Guidelines (June 2022)

Every five years, the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) reviews the latest science on first aid and resuscitation and updates treatment recommendations as necessary. The Lifesaving Society and its fellow national training agencies review the recommendations and agree upon a consistent interpretation and consensus in the guidelines for Canada. Our current program incorporates these recommendations.

We have updated our programs to include the 2020 recommendations, which are minor and do not affect the Society’s test items or “Must Sees.” Importantly, there are no changes to the resuscitation standards for drowning victims. Your existing training remains effective in saving lives.
