Job Description

Position Title: Camp Instructor
Reports to: Site Director, Coordinator - Camps
Status: Summer Contract (July and August)
Location: Variety Village, Scarborough, ON

Located in southwestern Scarborough, Variety Village is an inclusive, adaptive and family friendly facility serving more than 30,000 individuals each year.  Variety Village has had, and continues to have, a profound impact on the lives of people with disabilities and their families. Through adaptive sport and recreation programming, outreach and education, Variety promotes inclusion and healthy living through adapted physical activity.

Summary:
We are currently seeking dedicated, enthusiastic individuals to provide our program participants with an inclusive, sports centered, Day Camp program throughout the summer months.

Major Responsibilities, include, but are not limited to;

  • Creating and fostering a fun, exciting, and safe atmosphere for camp participants.
  • Implementing lesson plans set out by Head Instructor.
  • Helping Head Instructors in the evaluation of sport specific skills.
  • Leading a group through an activity in a way that is organized, fun, and keeps kids moving.
  • Confidently participating in any aspect of an emergency (i.e. providing first aid, running the group, etc.).
  • Working 1:1 with campers who need additional assistance to integrate into a camp setting.
  • Consistently providing excellent customer service for families and caregivers.
  • Always performing all duties in a safe manner.
  • Being familiar with facility and program schedule to answer any questions or concerns with parents/guardians.
  • Adhering to all Variety Village policies and procedures, including CPI and Plan to Protect.
  • Participating in Variety Village training sessions.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Valid certification in CPR-C, First Aid, AED required.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Responsible and dependable.
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership abilities.
Punctual and reliable.
Positive, proactive approach to work.
Creative, flexible, & fast thinking.
Comfortable working with people of all abilities, previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is a strong asset.
National Lifeguard & Lifesaving Society's Lifesaving Instructor/ Swim Instructor certifications are an asset.
