Job Description

The Lifesaving Society is a national volunteer organization and registered charity. We are a full-service provider of programs, products and services designed to prevent drowning. We save lives and prevent water‐related injury through our training programs, Water Smart public education, drowning research, aquatic safety management and lifesaving sport.

The Lifesaving Society Ontario Branch invites applications for the volunteer position Research Chair, Public Education.

Purpose: To provide leadership for the Lifesaving Society on research of drowning prevention measures and public education subjects. This includes establishing connections with relevant organizations and communities to build trust among emerging groups and the Lifesaving Society, as well as identifying needs and opportunities for drowning prevention‐focused activities and initiatives for all. Additionally, facilitating the development and execution of a plan for implementation, and aiding in the creation and distribution of data driven, evidence‐based public education messages tailored specifically, for each particular group at risk.

Term of Office: Appointed by the Board of Directors to the Public Education Council for a term of two years.

Reporting Relationship:

  • To the Lifesaving Public Education Council as required.
  • To the Board of Directors as required.

Required Qualifications

Responsibilities:

1. Establish objectives and annual action plan for the Research Portfolio.

2. Manage approved projects.

3. Chair the Research committee, including:

  • Recruit committee members
  • Assign responsibilities
  • Recognize volunteer committee members

4. Attend Council meetings as scheduled and the Annual General Meeting.

5. Report to Public Education Council as scheduled on the status of established objectives and

action plan.
