Job Description
The Lifesaving Society is a national volunteer organization and registered charity. We are a full-service provider of programs, products and services designed to prevent drowning. We save lives and prevent water‐related injury through our training programs, Water Smart public education, drowning research, aquatic safety management and lifesaving sport.
The Lifesaving Society Ontario Branch invites applications for the volunteer position Public Education Swim to Survive Chair.
Purpose: To provide leadership for the Lifesaving Society – Ontario in distributing public education messages and supporting the growth and execution of the Swim to Survive programs, primarily outside of the grant programs.
Term of Office: Elected to the Public Education Council at the Lifesaving Society’s Annual General Meeting for a term of two years.
Reporting Relationship:
- To the Lifesaving Public Education Council.
- To the Board of Directors as required.
- To the Lifesaving Society, Ontario Branch membership annually.
Required Qualifications
Responsibilities:
1. Establish objectives and annual action plan on matters related to Public Education –Swim to Survive programs.
2. Manage approved projects related to Swim to Survive programs, including:
- Identify needs/opportunities for Swim to Survive programs, especially outside of the school grant program, and develop a plan for their execution.
- Identify potential funding sources and partner organizations.
- Collect and monitor activities of other provincial branches of the Lifesaving Society regarding Swim to Survive programs or school related initiatives.
- Collect, monitor and report on the implementation of Swim to Survive programs – outside of the school grant program.
3. Chair the Swim to Survive committee, including:
- Recruit and develop committee members as required
- Assign responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate committee activities
- Recognize volunteer committee members
4. Attend Public Education Council meetings, and the Annual General Meeting.
5. Report to Public Education Council as scheduled on the status of established objectives and action plan.
6. Prepare an annual report on Swim to Survive Programs committee activities and
accomplishments.
