Job Description

The Lifesaving Society is a national volunteer organization and registered charity. We are a full-service provider of programs, products, and services designed to prevent drowning. We save lives and prevent water-related injury through our training programs, Water Smart public education, drowning research, aquatic safety management, and lifesaving sport.

Position Overview

The Lifesaving Society Ontario Branch invites applications for Area Co-Chairs for all 4 areas in Toronto. We require 1 volunteer per area, looking for 4 individuals.

Purpose:

To provide representation and leadership for the Lifesaving Society-Ontario on matters related to the designated geographical area.

Term of Office:

Appointed by the Board of Directors to the Area Service Council for a term of two years.

Reporting Relationship:

  • To the Area Service Council as required.
  • To the Board of Directors as required.
  • To the Council of Officers as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote and support Lifesaving Society programs and services, including:
    • Build and maintain communication with affiliate members
    • Encourage new Affiliate memberships
    • Host and/or attend area/regional affiliate meetings
    • Stay updated on Society programs and priorities
  • Represent the area to the Society and the Society in the area, including:
    • Act as the Society's representative in the area
    • Provide feedback to Council and Board on motions and initiatives
  • Actively participate in the annual Area Chair Conference, including:
    • Set yearly objectives and strategies aligned with Branch priorities
    • Report on area activities and the status of objectives
  • Manage the Society in the area, including:
    • Work in collaboration with Co-Chair
    • Appoint and coordinate volunteers for events
    • Nominate volunteers for Society awards
    • Approve Society Area expenditures
  • Support drowning prevention education and fundraising initiatives.
  • Maintain leadership personnel for the Society's training programs by:
    • Assessing the need for leadership training
    • Working with affiliates to certify new instructors, examiners, and trainers
    • Assisting affiliates with securing examiners
    • Appointing Examiner Mentors
  • On request, sit as a member of the Ontario Certification Review Committee.
  • Adhere to the Lifesaving Society-Ontario Volunteer Code of Conduct.
